The latest version ISO 9000:2005, clause 3.8.5, defines validation as "the confirmation by objective evidence that the requirements for a particular application or use are met".
Example: "that a product meets a customer-generated specification and thus to the extent that it meets the requirements for use by the customer, results in a validated product".
